As our keynote speaker we are pleased to have Gail Dines, professor of Sociology and American Studies at Wheelock College in Boston. Dines is one of the founding members of the National Feminist Anti-Pornography Movement. She lectures on pornography at colleges and community groups throughout the United States, and she is the co-author of Pornography: the Production and Consumption of Inequality and the text book Gender, Race and Class in Media.

Two unique features of Take Back The Night are the Clothesline Project and Silent Witness. The Clothesline Project gives victims and survivors of violence an opportunity to tell their stories in a unique and exceedingly powerful way.  Symbolic of "hanging out our dirty laundry," each shirt tells a story of one victim's pain.  Viewing the shirts is a moving experience that should not be missed. Click here to see local shirts and the stories behind them.  Silent Witness display honors the lives of women and children killed in domestic violence.

A powerful segment of Take Back The Night is the Survivor Speakout.  This is a time for people to share their personal stories of pain, healing and survival.  This is followed by a march through downtown Naperville to protest for our right to live free from violence.  Singing and a candle lighting ceremony will conclude the evening.  Concerned members of the public are invited to participate in this free event.

Our famous glow-in-the-dark Take Back The Night T-shirts will be for sale at the event.  Shown here is the new design celebrating our 15th year. The letters, stars, and moon all glow in the dark.  We will also have Clothesline Project art pins and other merchandise for sale.  All merchandise sold at Take Back The Night helps fund our event.

Our last planning meetings are September 5th and 19th at 6 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn YWCA, please join us if you'd like to get involved. 739 Roosevelt Rd. Building 8, Room 210 is the probable location.
